1005 South Sixth Street
Georgian Revival architectural style
Built in 1925, the twenty-eight-unit Georgian apartment building is located across the street from the University of Illinois Armory Building. The Georgian Revival style was popular on university campuses, and the proximity to the University of Illinois may have influenced developer Roger Little to employ the style on the apartment building. The three-story building has a relatively narrow street facade, but its length fills a regular residential lot. The exterior remains largely unchanged. Interior features include pickled-oak molding, glass-front dish cabinets, and Murphy-bed doors. Although the Georgian first attracted non-university residents, it is now occupied mainly by students.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 15, 2005 for significance in Architecture (#5001260). Listed as a Local Landmark on February 15, 2005. Also known as the Georgian Apartment Building.
